Semi Permanent Colours - Information

Hair Dyes are chemicals that are used to change hair color. These are the mixtures of nitro dyes and anthraquinones. These dyes produce red, yellow and blue colouring. These colours gives the partial grey coverage.

If you've found a colour you like but don't want the commitment of permanent dyes, then semi-permanent's the way to go. These dyes don't contain hair bleach, so are quite gentle and even help condition your hair. The only thing to remember is, without bleach, you won't be able to make your hair lighter than your natural shade. The colour normally lasts a couple of months and fades out quite naturally without leaving embarrassing 'roots'.

They don't actually lift the color - you can either vary the tone within your natural highlights or go darker. Quasi-color contains ethanolamine and 3% peroxide which slightly opens the cuticle. This means that the color can last up to 20 washes and will softly fade as you shampoo, causing no regrowth problem.

The semi-permanent color is formulated to be more lasting than temporary but milder then permanent coloring techniques. The semi-permanent colours, penetrate into the hair shaft and are not rinse off with water like temporary colouring. These colours are usually come in liquid, gel or aerosol forms.

The semipermanent hair colour can last through several shampoos, depending on the hair's porosity. The semipermanent colours are suitable for those, who feel that their hair is dull and drab. The special hair dye preparations are made for coloring gray hair. They do not contain a single, but a mixture of red, yellow, blue and orange colours in various proportions. Thus, they can pass through the cuticle into the cortex eaily, without damaging the scales of the cuticle.

For how long it will remain, it depends upon the porosity of the hairs and on its ability to absorb moistures. Semipermanent hair color is mostly used by women to cover up any gray hairs that may have started appearing. In some cases, if the hair already has its own natural pigment (such as in younger people) the semipermanent hair color can act as permanent hair color, because you are applying another pigment on hair that already has pigment--graying hair lacks pigment.

The semipermanent hair color acts like permanent hair color if using a dye a shade darker than the natural hair color. It can cover gray and go darker, but can not lighten. It lasts varying lengths of time depending on the product. It is very suitable for amateur colorists.
